The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) offers grants under the Petroleum Underground Storage Tank (PUST) Program to eligible New Jersey homeowners for the closure, removal, and replacement of existing Underground Storage Tank (UST) systems.

Q: Who is eligible?
A: New Jersey property owners with non-leaking residential USTs are eligible for funding for the closure,
removal, and replacement of the existing UST system.

Q: What are the limits of the available funding?
A: Up to $1,200 may be awarded for UST closure and removal; up to $3,000 may be awarded for UST
closure, removal, and replacement.

Q: How do I get a grant?
A: Grant applicants must provide their last three years’ Federal Income Tax statements, a Personal
Financial Statement, and a non-refundable $250 application fee payable to the NJEDA.

Q: What are some of the qualifying criteria?
A: Annual taxable income of less than $250,000.
Net worth less than $500,000 (excluding primary residence and pension).
Demonstrate that repaying a loan would be a financial hardship. (The NJEDA has very liberal test to
determine what is a hardship).

Q: Are there any other conditions based on income?
A: Any applicant with a taxable income of more than $200,000 who qualifies for a grant shall be required
to pay no more than $1,000 for the eligible project.

Q: If I’m approved, how long until I receive my grant?
A: Typically, grants are issued within 6-8 weeks.

Q: What happens if my tank leaked? Is there funding available?
A: There is funding available for a leaking UST through the Hazardous Discharge Site Remediation Fund
